Bhaskar DasIt’s an unfair question to ask, but given the mess that the National Capital Region air is in as you read this, we thought we would seek the views of our Wizard with Words (& Wisdom) for the Das ka Dum edition for today, November 9.

Q. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s aggressive messaging on the cracker ban obviously fell on deaf ears. As a marketer, how do you think he could have done it differently?

A. This is a complex subject as it falls at the intersection of environment, economic activity and social entertainment. Obviously, the environment should get precedence. In that case, would solution be worse than the problem? May be green crackers can mitigate the environment issues. But are they available now? I have no idea. Incidentally, have we solved all other environment-damaging issues that were deliberated at the COP26 UN climate change conference?

Civil society awareness can be an intervening strategy. This is true on an all-India basis as cracker ban hasn’t worked nationally but one good sign is that slowly but surely the ill effects of fire crackers are gaining acceptanceI know my answer is sounding like a consolation prize. Do you have an answer for a democratic country?
