Q. This question since we are just a few days past I-Day: Other than the fact that we are ruled by Indians, and not the British, do you think we are truly free?

A. The word freedom, to my mind, encompasses every domain. Globally it’s being achieved partially. The biggest lack of freedom is freedom from poverty, freedom from climatic degradation, freedom from terrorism etc. In some cases, citizens have political freedom, in other cases, there are deprivations. Hence, real freedom is difficult to achieve in an idealistic way. But sub-optimality in every domain has become an accepted norm globally.
