Q. Why is it that existing leaders in the media space – especially in news – get so very hostile towards newcomers and new leaders?

A. Hostility to me seems to be a very strong word. In a perfect competition environment, entry of new players is inevitable and entrenched/legacy players would like to match the high decibel communication of the newcomer. Marketing is full of such cases of intense engagement in a sector including ambush marketing. This is what competitive dynamics is all about. So I don’t decode any new pattern in the behaviour of various players. Ultimately, the market decides the winner, irrespective of the so-called hostility (your term!).
