Q. If Sales/PR execs don’t keep in touch with their clients and media connects, how would you rate them as professionals? Should the organisation dispense with their services?

A. One has to first go into the raison d’etre of a job function. And when both the employer and employee have mutually agreed to abide by the role expectations, it should be fulfilled. This is the first meta point. Now given the circumstances mentioned by you, it has to be either a dereliction of duty on the part of the employee or due to abnormal circumstances of business, the job function gets redundant. In either case, the probability of severance cannot be ruled out. Unfortunately, that’s the societal order and corporations can rarely ill-afford to carry passengers in an intensely competitive world where survival, let alone thriving, has been a key challenge.
