Q With the health of the Indian media being so very bad, would you recommend students to opt for a pure play MBA than a degree in media or brand studies?

A. Your question smacks of a legacy evaluation parameter for any selection process. I think one can’t start with a preconceived notion and a deterministic approach to anything, be it selection of a candidate or a strategy. Instead one has to decode the mind of a strategist which combines multiple skills that are sector-neutral. Models of business, consumer insights of various demographic and social cohorts, technology trends and its application in a relevant context, openness to learning and its application, design thinking and team playing etc are the key qualities to be sought after in a leader. The candidate can incidentally be an MBA.
