Q.  We’ve had many FMCG and telecom folks switch to media as it’s an exciting field to be in, and is quite fast-moving. Would you recommend the switch to the media to, say, a big boss of a large transnational?

A. I understand the origin of this question as you have deducted from the current practices in the industry. In fact, while the flow from other industries to media industry is higher, the reverse is only by exception. Perhaps. It’s a reality that media industry has supply side constraints of range of options, it’s not so in case of other industries. STEM-led qualities are rarely available in media sector so far, and hence there is a trend of scouting for talent from outside industry. To my mind, it can result in healthy cross-pollination of ideas and thoughts. Sectors other than media are actively practising it and there are examples galore.
