Q. As an academic and an industry biggie, are you happy with the talent that is being produced by our media schools?

A. I agree there is a shortage of talent across sectors as the grammar of skill is still evolving due to tectonic shifts that have been happening, thanks to tech-led innovation and consumer behavioural change. Academics need to keep pace with that through a future backwards pedagogy creation. But note the important part is the upskilling that any practising professonal has to do in a sustained manner. The jobs in 2030 have not yet been been imagined. So no predagogy can prepare today’s student for such a skill. Hence the academic world has to calibrate collectively with the business world in co-creating curriculum that keeps a student at the cutting edge and hone their skills in problem-solving than to mug up predictable answers, through digging into past problems.
