Lookback 2012: Wins and wows

28 Dec,2012

As far as the sheer number of advertising awards goes, advertising and media agencies have a good array to participate in – at the India, regional and global level. The number of awards coming home has also increased, though the London International festival and One Show still elude the fraternity. At London we could convert one out of three shortlisted into an award – and at One Show even that did not happen.

A few interesting observations about the awards scenario:

1. The agencies that win in India and those which one overseas are not the same – even if the same agencies win at both the places, the number of awards won does not match at all. Do the juries at both (Indian and International) awards think differently, parameters are different, or does the Indian jury does a much better job of selecting the winning entries because they can understand them better in the Indian context?

2. Agencies keep winning a number of awards for the same client – and sometimes it happens across award functions and years. Are these clients more open to letting the agency experiment, does the agency put in its best resources behind these clients, does the work come into the limelight once awarded, or is it sheer coincidence?

3. While in media it is largely the big agencies flexing their muscles – in creative, the younger agencies too are being applauded.

4. Indian media agencies have a better entry to award conversion rate than creative agencies. Interestingly when it comes to Yahoo Big Idea Chair – even there media agencies have done an excellent job, Maxus leading the way. The only Grand Prix India bagged in the year is by MindShare.

We have attempted putting together a comprehensive list of awards won by Indian advertising and media agencies – and are extremely proud to see the tally soaring. The data is based on secondary research, and is subject to human error – so in case you have won and are missing in our tables or the award is not indicated correctly, give us a shout and we will do the needful.

May we bring many more awards home in the year 2013, and increase the tally year after year.
