LookBack 2012: Account Movements

28 Dec,2012

Like every year, this year too saw a number of accounts changing hands. Here are a few interesting factors about these account wins:

1. There was far more action in the creative space than in media. One of the reasons maybe that new brands from the same stable stick to the organization AOR due to buying efficiencies – but do not mind going in for a separate creative agency.

2. While in media, it is only the top five or six agencies that are ruling the roost, in creative it is an excellent blend of small, mid-sized and large agencies. The creative entrepreneurs who gave up their cushy jobs to start their own setups are definitely in demand.

3. In media space while all the biggies have flexed their muscles – Publicis group companies (Vivaki Exchange) Starcom, Mediavest and Zenith Optimedia have done a commendable job – a definite revival. If the boss man moving to the biggest competitor and leader makes a difference in the agency’s fortunes remains to be seen.

4. It is heartening to see new kids on the block like What the Hell winning accounts in the creative space. Dentsu, DDB Mudra and Everest deserve a special mention too for the number of accounts bagged and also the wide range of new accounts.
